Okay, I'm coming into my second week. I'm a little nervous. As Jillian said on last night's weekly dose of inspiration, i.e. The Biggest Loser, "The second week is notoriously rough." The water weight is pretty much gone at this point (although probably not totally gone until the third week) so now it's all me.
I tried to do my lower body weight training this morning but I don't really like the exercises I have. I have a really kick-ass (pun intended) routine on DVD so I tried to watch that, but my DVD player's remote doesn't work and the DVD is programmed so that you can't play the workout without the remote.
I then tried to play it on my laptop, but even after I reinstalled Windows Media Player last weekend, the thing only plays the sound, no picture. So I tried to do it off the soundtrack and my memory of the motions, but I can't remember well enough. I'll have to pick up one of those universal remotes - do those things really work? - and see if I can program it. I don't know what to do about the laptop.
Anway, so I still have to get in a lower body workout somehow today. Guess I'll be working from a book after all.

What frustrates me the most about the biggest loser is that they never explain the physics behind weight loss to the people at home or the participants during the show. I suppose they do this more or less for dramatic effect.
When you are extremely out of shape, and haven't exercised in months, or even years, when you first begin your body burns everything. You did mention water weight, on top of that a lot of fat is burned. As the body adjusts to its new workout and dieting regimen weight loss balances out to what its supposed to be, usually between 1 or 2 pounds a week.
Also it is easier for obese men to lose weight than obese women.
3500 calrories equals one pound, which equates to a 500 calorie deficit for each individual per day if you want to lose a pound a week. 1000 calories per day for two pounds, over that and your body will end up retaining fate due to caolirc deficit.
The safe way to lose is 1 - 2 pounds a week, anything over that is bonus as long as you are doing it safely. Deprivation, is not safe weight loss.
That said, what frustrates me most about Bob and Jillian is that they are DISAPPOINTED at weigh in. As if they don't know what is going om! I mean these are fitness professionals, they should say, wow you didnt lose 15 pounds but here is why... I am not disappointed you did a great job...
It sucks because I feel like the show could be so much better and NOT send people home, just stick with them throughout the competition. And the temptations, what is up with that? WHY are you tempting people with these foods when you are there to HELP them. Other than that, what a wonderful thing they are doing. 412 pounds of sugar from soda a year! I know some people who could really benefit from some stats like that.

Anyways Nagem, this is awesome that you are logging all of this stuff I hope you can accomplish everything you want out of it. I know sometimes I can act like I know everything about exercise but I just know what I know and thats certainly not everything. It took me a year to lose 45 pounds, some people can do it faster, but I know what worked for me and it was the fundamentals of nutritious diet and exercise. I am here for ya, for motivation or whatever you need!
